The Pacifier

Riley has slept with her pacifier just about every night since we brought her home from the hospital. (I actually think she was about a month old or so, but you get the point) Yesterday at naptime she could not find it. She had misplaced it so we looked for it and I then told her that she could take a nap without it and we would look again later. She did not seem to have too much of a problem with that idea and went to sleep. I later found it and put it away so she could not find it. Last night I reminded her that she had lost it and that she could pick out an animal in her room to sleep with instead. So we went and looked and she picked out her lion. We began to rock and she asked again where her paci was and I explained. Well, she was not happy about that if you know what I mean. I calmed her down and we read some books. She asked everybody in the books if they knew where her paci was, but nobody did. She seemed okay. Then Joey took her to bed and she asked him again, but did not get upset. He tucked her in and went to sleep and slept all night until about 5:00 this morning when she wet the bed. She did not even ask for it when she woke up this morning and she usually does if she does not have it in her mouth. I am very proud of her and thankful that it was not too bad. I am sure we will have some issues for the next several days because the kid does not forget ANYTHING, but I know that she can do it and she does too. YIPEE!

I am proud of Riley but sad, too. It is a step in growing up and I can remember when her mother gave up her paci. love you, gramme
